From the Supernatural Shadows of Hollywood and Here:
George Kuchar's Influence on Experimental & Independent Cinema

Electrocute Your Stars
from Electrocute Your Stars

Paying tribute to one of cinema's greatest imaginations—and offered in the afterglow of his visit to the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on April 12th & 13th—From the Supernatural Shadows of Hollywood and Here features a program of short experimental and independent films influenced by the celebrated underground filmmaker George Kuchar.

Eat My Makeup!
from Eat My Makeup!

Unfurling a charming and provocative strand of North American cinema, tonight's program will feature works that evoke Kuchar's cinematic brilliance in their subject matter and in their celebration of the body; in their color palettes and in their use of video transitions and effects; in their transgressions and in their fun; and in their sincerity and cinephilia as well.

Work to screen includes: Sissy Boy Slap Party (Guy Maddin, Canada, 1995); Eat My Makeup! (Marie Losier, USA, 2005); Electrocute Your Stars (Marie Losier, USA, 2005); Diablo en la Piel (Ximena Cuevas, Mexico, 1998); Ask the Insects (Steve Reinke, Canada, 2005); & I, A Director (Rachel Manera, USA, 2006)

Curated by Lisa Danker of the UWM Film Department, From the Supernatural Shadows of Hollywood and Here is the concluding program in this season's Cinematic Excursions with George Kuchar series, presented by the UWM Film Department, the UWM Union Theatre, and Woodland Pattern Book Center. For more information on George Kuchar's visit to Milwaukee on April 12th and 13th, see http://www.uniontheatre.uwm.edu

The UWM Film Department presents the Woodland Pattern Experimental Film/Video series once a month in the gallery space of Woodland Pattern Book Center. The series presents film and video screenings, presentations by visiting artists, and varieties of media performance.
