In Part a Treatment of Success
by Stephen Wetzel

Credits Included
The Woodland Pattern Experimental Film/Video Series is proud to welcome back local artist Stephen Wetzel for the premiere of his new video "In Part a Treatment of Success."

Wetzel's new hybrid video explores the subjects of failure and "subjective trajectories" through the use of a wide range of video documentation including an interview with a recently incarcerated man. The video has a modular structure and spends most of its time with a dome home business whose product, while pragmatic and beautiful, remains commercially unviable. "In Part a Treatment of Success" shares with Wetzel's previous documentary work a formal strategy that holds content just below the surface of its subjects' dialogue and actions.

Accompanying the screening of Wetzel's new work will be a brief reading from Markus' "From Here and There and Back Again the World gets Smaller Every Time I Light Those Candles."

Stephen Wetzel is a full-time lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the former Education Department Coordinator at MATA Community Media where he taught video production to Milwaukee youth. Wetzel earned MFAs from both the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. While he has worked in several media such as performance, installation, and radio, the bulk of Wetzel's recent art has been documentary video including two feature-length projects: "Men's Hockey" and "Birthday Girl." This winter his new video will be screened in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
