Roberto Harrison is the author, most recently, of Counter Daemons (Litmus Press, 2006) and Os (subpress, 2006). A chapbook, Elemental Song, was also published in 2006 by Answer Tag Home Press. He edits Crayon with Andrew Levy, and the Bronze Skull Press chapbook series. His work has appeared in Chicago Review, Brooklyn Rail, Talisman, Jacket, New American Writing, Mandorla, Salt (UK), Cordite (Australia), Antennae, War and Peace 3: The Future, The City Visible: Chicago Poetry for the New Century, and many other publications. He lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he works as a systems librarian.

Ineffable Isthmus is a collection of drawings and journal entries. The small drawings on index cards were done for Bronze Skull chapbooks, a series of chapbooks focusing mostly, but not exclusively, on writing occurring in Wisconsin and in Chicago. The larger drawings were done separately and are included to show my first forays into using materials in this way: black ink applied onto paper using sticks found behind my apartment. The larger drawings provide one current limit, or door, to the collection. The other door is provided by the journal entries. The journal entries show a focus on rhythms, or tying words together, often with the word 'together.' One of the themes that I hope surfaces in this collection is a striving for a unity in multiplicity: a unity of community as well as of expression, of the self and of the larger world. Or a bridging through what cannot be expressed in discursive terms.
